An officer responded to a theft of a Miraphone Tuba from an individual off Craiglist
Police spoke with an employee who wanted to report two tubas had gone missing around eleven days ago.
She received a call from a man involving one of the missing tubas. The man contacted her and UTC Police to inform them he had attempted to purchases a Miraphone Tuba from an individual off Craiglist.
He said he attempted to contact the individual for several weeks via e-mail. The individual replied and the two agreed to meet at Northgate Mall.Upon meeting, the seller opened the case and showed to tuba to the buyer. The buyer bought the tuba for $1,900.
When the buyer returned to Atlanta he noticed the stamp "property of utc" in the case. He called the Craiglist seller back and told him he wanted to return the tuba and get his money back. The seller agreed but said he could only give him back $1,700.
They met at a gas station off highway 24 to trade and the buyer called the UTC police after leaving.
The UTC employee who made the original phone call to police told them one of the tubas was a Miraphone worth $8,000 and the other was a Besson worth $6,000. Police are taking out warrants for the arrest of the Craigslist seller.
